Medinas Emeralds

Under the rule of Queen Lydia of Medinas, the Crown Mines of Lagada were established. This involved the manipulation of a deep and extensive vein of emerald crystals that was exploited for generations of miners and minters. Later, a second emerald source was discovered near the city of Laris - leading to an age of gem inflation in Medinas.

Emeralds from both these locations were cut square by dwarvish and human gemcutters, and engraved with an 'L', these becoming the standardised currency of that people and kingdom, and a well known and respected currency sometimes used by traders abroad.
